Feeding the Hungry Beast

In our last blog post we showcased the Tyranny of Small Business. This time let’s talk about some tasteless activity from the “right side” of governing.

Previously we spoke about the importance of small business owners being connected politically to voice objections to harmful encroachment of government regulations. This requires getting to know and supporting our elected representatives.

Unfortunately, on today’s political battlefield it takes enormous amounts to fund a campaign. I get it! I heard an online commentator recently state that it will take a leading presidential candidate one billion dollars in campaign funds. Good grief! Think of the cost of all the highly charged Senate candidates with congress hanging in the balance.

Now, I provide reasonable financial support for my representative’s election campaigns both as a responsible business owner and patriotic American. The problem however is the resulting blowback resulting in a tsunami of emails and texts panting for funds. Yesterday my spam filter caught most of them (I tried to count them but ran out of time, sorry) not to mention the dozen or more each day that somehow manage to get through. When I mentioned this earlier last week in D.C. for an NFIB Fly-in, one member stated that they do this because it probably works. Well, it does not work with me! I know there are many clueless voters out there and I would like to think most responsible Americans would not risk contributing to a campaign request from unsolicited emails or phone texts. Who knows, the money might be going to a hacking rogue.

So here is common sense advice to those in decision of this nonsense: It is not helping your cause, stop it! Whatever marketing or PR firm that is disseminating these blasts for you, FIRE THEM!

Find a better way folks that is more authentic and palatable. This routine is only making the Hungry Beast hungrier.
